I have had this announcement in draft form for nearly a week now, and it's remiss of me to keep it from you any longer - especially as Doc/Fest Charlie has
trumped me again!
Yes, there is hope for non-traditional doc funding in the UK, in the form of new initiative
Tipping Point Film Fund, which, in the words of the founders: "is extending the idea of ‘crowd funding’, whereby independent filmmakers can tap into their networks in order to raise production funding. TPFF aims to grow its donor base by reaching out to campaigning networks, independent film goers and online social networks, through a mix of regular giving, one-off donations and support from major donors."
And in its first year it's working with The Co-operative, which we all love.
This is fantastic news for anyone making a social issue doc with a campaigning element, but of course, this being a documentary blog, we can't give you unadulterated good news - that would just spoil you. So here tis:
They're not at the point of selecting unsolicited proposals - read it for yourself
here - having already set up their slate via their own originated ideas and people they know (including, interestingly, a film about
the co-operative movement) - highlights the importance of networking, eh?
However, we will of course keep you posted on news as and when it emerges, or you can sign up to the newsletter
here.
