  • Festival Administrator - Sheffield Doc/Fest

    This is a permanent, full time position running starting in March 2010 and will be based in Sheffield. £15,000 per annum pro rata.

    Responsible for all areas of the company admin and reporting to the General Manager and Festival Director, this role is a key position within the operations team of Doc/Fest.
    As well as general office administration the role also involves:
    • Recruiting and overseeing festival assistants
    • Inducting temporary staff
    • Organising board meetings
    • Updating organisational and online systems
    • Financial administration
    • Maintaining IT systems
    • Taking and filing minutes of meetings
    • Organising year-round events and festival conference programme
    • Organising and overseeing delegate registration during the festival
    • Reporting and debrief after the festival
    Applicants will need to demonstrate similar administrational experience. Knowledge and experience of working on festivals and/or in the media sector is desirable.

  • Director needed - World Film Collective (Unpaid)

    World Film Collective (http://worldfilmcollective.com/) require a talented documentary filmmaker to direct the edit of a short documentary film promoting their work.  

    WFC is a charity which teaches filmmaking to disadvantaged young people around the globe, using equipment that is sustainable, accessible and affordable, providing them a rare chance to tell their stories.

    Several hours of footage has been filmed during their workshops in Brazil, Palestine, South Africa and the UK, and now needs to be edited down into an engaging film.  

    WFC can provide, if required, access to editing facilites and an editor, as well as graphics and script editing support.  Unfortunately this is a no-budget project due to WFC's charitable status, although travel expenses within London can be covered.

    DFG's internship scheme - a unique opportunity for new filmmakers to learn about the documentary and factual television industry in a practical, work environment at the same time as undertaking industry-focussed training - is now open for several internships with an immediate start.

    To help you focus your ambitions, we have opportunities available in two key areas of our work:

    1. Web: Supporting DFG in its web rebuild and helping to deliver our new schedule of industry-focussed editorial.

    2. Training: Supporting our current training and production initiatives, currently taking place throughout London. This opportunity will involve some weekend activities.

    All opportunities will be based in our Hackney office, and would suit anyone bright, enthusiastic and eager to learn, with strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Maverick Media seeks Documentary Filmmaker

    We are looking for a documentary filmmaker who can document the production process and shoot of an upcoming advert. We want to capture the technical processes and the people involved in a “fly on the wall” style. You will need to be fully available over the next 4 weeks. We will not require you to film every day but you must be available to capture key points which could fall anywhere within this window.

    We are looking for someone who can self shoot, edit and deliver the project individually within tight timelines and to a professional standard. We have post facilities but someone with their own shooting kit is a big bonus.

    The client is an international computer games company. This job would suite a graduate looking to develop contacts and showreel work. Applicants should have both of the below to qualify for consideration:
    • Tangible and referenced experience self shooting, editing and delivering projects of a similar documentary style.
    • A relevant showreel or portfolio piece available online.
    We are not looking for any other creative suppliers at this moment so please do not apply if you do not fill all of the above criteria. The fee will be between 1000 and 1500 pounds.

    Aesthetica is looking for filmmakers who are driving the genre of short film forward through inspirational and innovative works.     Job Description:

    This role involves the coordination of existing and developing marketplace activities, in order to assist the Marketplace Producer in the production and development of all Marketplace activities.     Location (Negotiable):
    EITHER (depending on circumstance):
    Based primarily in London but definitely required to be based in Sheffield for 3 months from (approximately) the second week of August to the first week of December

    OR:
    Sheffield year round with some days in London as required

    Essential Requirements:
    • Knowledge, and at least 1 year’s experience, of the documentary industry     and marketplace/funding
    • A high level of organisation and attention to detail
    • Experience of working within a budget
    • Experience of working within film festivals and/or arts event administration
    • Ability to deal professionally with important representatives of the film, TV and cross-platform industries
    • A strong interest in documentary and factual media, and the documentary marketplace
    • Experience of working independently within a small team
    • Experience of PA work, ideally within a festival or film organisation
    Desired Requirements:
    • Experience of media education and workshops
    • Experience of arts funding applications
    Specific tasks
    • Managing the regional pitch workshops, including booking venues and other practical details (and staying within allocated budget), publicising them regionally, attending workshops where necessary, tracking long-term outcomes from workshop attendees (including offering advice and mentoring where necessary), and assisting in the production of funding reports.
    • Assisting in gathering data for funding reports to key marketplace funders
    • Assisting in identifying and researching new avenues of funding for the marketplace, including from sponsorship and foundations, etc.
    • Researching potential new buyers and decision-makers to attend the marketplace, especially in the areas of new platforms and distribution, including distributing key MeetMarket outcomes to potential attendees in order to persuade them to attend
    • Assisting in the collation of ongoing tracking reports of MeetMarket and other pitch participants, and staying in touch with them
    • Sending key marketplace outcomes to UK decision-makers and ensuing year-round contact between marketplace team and UK documentary industry
    • Developing the production, stage management and visual identity of MeetMarket
    • Assisting in the development of a standalone cross-platform market at Sheffield Doc/Fest
    • Assisting in the delivery of Crossover New Entrants course, and any other potential Crossover-Doc/Fest collaborations and other Doc/Fest training/education schemes
    • Liaising with regional filmmakers, and ensuring a presence in all UK regions, in consultation with Marketplace Producer
    • Liaising with filmmakers and film institutes in identified priority countries for 2010, in consultation with Marketplace Producer
    • Assisting in the development and production of new marketplace events, and new pitches
    • Assisting in the maintenance of relationships between Doc/Fest and existing pitch producers.
    • On-the-ground liaison in Sheffield from mid-August to early December with venues  and other festival departments
    • Managing the Festival Director’s Meetings, travel and diary
    • Carrying out regular reconciliations of the Festival Director’s travel and expenses.

FeatureLab aims to fast forward the filmmaking process for those who are ready to make the leap to a full-length feature film for commercial release. It is particularly interested in hearing from individuals from black and minority ethnic backgrounds currently under-represented in film and TV.   • Sheffield Doc/Fest Internship Opportunity: Industry and Marketplace Department

    Sheffield Doc/Fest has a work placement available in the industry and marketplace team, based in our London office.

    We're looking for someone to work 1 or 2 days a week for 6 weeks, starting from Mon 18th January.

    Doc/Fest is the UK's premier documentary festival, market and conference. Doc/Fest delivers events all year round with the major event, the festival, over 5 days in November. The festival team is small and prides itself on the boutique nature of the festival and the year round excellent service it provides the industry and audience.

    We need an extra pair of hands in the London office to support the team who produce the industry and market events, especially the year-round documentary pitching workshops that we run across the UK. We are looking for someone with some office administration experience, who is very organised and has a passion for factual film and media, and film screening and training events.

    Experience Gained:
    Coordinating and marketing film workshops, researching film-making industries across the UK and world, contacting documentary industry professionals, the planning and production of a major international film festival, researching cross-media and interactive industry professionals

    Applicants should:
    • Have an interest in film, TV, and cross-platform media

  • Community Chroniclers Project Co-ordinator (South West)

    'Community Chroniclers' is a one year Somerset Film intergenerational project and forms part of Company of Voices, a partnership led by CHYPPs and Somerset County Council.

    The Scottish Documentary Institute (SDI) is an internationally recognised documentary research centre at Edinburgh College of Art, specialised in documentary training, production and distribution. SDI runs training initiatives such as the annual Bridging the Gap scheme funded by Scottish Screen and Skillset. We organise master classes, screenings, workshops and host many visiting filmmakers of international reputation in Edinburgh.

    SDI is seeking to appoint an administrator to assist in the administration of SDI's core activities such as Bridging the Gap, Interdoc and other training and production initiatives.

    This post offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a team which is passionate about documentary form, and education in documentary storytelling. You will work across every aspect of SDI, assisting in administration, training coordination, production and distribution.   • South West Screen Digital Shorts Scheme Open

    Digital Shorts is the South West region’s key development and production initiative for new and emerging filmmakers.

    This year, 4 films will be commissioned, with running times of no more than 10 minutes, at budgets of between £10,000 - £15,000. All themes, styles and subjects will be considered including animation and documentary.

    The commissioned films will be drawn from a ‘development pool’ of 8 projects/filmmaking teams who’ll be supported through an intense 8 week development phase. Working with a professional development executive, producers and other collaborators, you’ll advance your chosen project to the point at which it can be ‘greenlit’ into production through the programme.

    The 4 greenlit films will go into production over Summer 2010, for delivery in August 2010.

  • Pears Foundation Short Film Fund at the UK Jewish Film Festival

    Two grants of up to £10,000 are being made available by The Pears Foundation Short Film Fund at the UK Jewish Film Festival for the production of a short film or video – drama, animation or factual – with a Jewish theme of significance to both Jewish and general public audiences and a maximum length of 10 minutes.

    The scheme is open to all filmmakers resident in the UK.
